Monsters…!!

Haven’t been blogging for quite a long time…anyone missed me…? Hahaa…

The past few wks had not been very good…I needed time to be with Sweetie…therefore no time to blog…I mentioned tat she fell sick…tummy ache…went for X-Ray…well…thank God she’s so much better…the tummy ache disappeared – we increased the dosage for her medicine (the one tat help her poo soften)…it also helped her to poo everyday instead of alternate days…after poo-ing everyday for nearly a wk…her tummy ache was gone…she didn’t mention it again…thank God…!

But something else popped up…something I was not prepared for…something I dun really know how to handle…“Monsters”…there was a nite she simply refuse to sleep…tossing & turning in bed…asking for one more story…one more song…I tot she was being naughty…didn’t want to sleep…my patience reached its limit…I scolded her…told her if she’s not interested in sleeping then I’m not patting her to sleep…I walked out of the room…she cried…my husband went to her…ask her wat happened…she just cry…asking for me…in the end (less than 5mins)…I went back to her room to tell her story…sing songs…she finally fell asleep…total time taken to get her to sleep tat nite was more than 2hrs…!! The next nite…something similar happen…she didn’t want to sleep…I told myself not to be so ‘harsh’ to her…try a different method…talk to her…ask her why she didn’t want to sleep…then she started asking for her grandma (my mum)…she said she missed her…tat’s impossible…cos we go over my parents place everyday…! I ask her to tell me honestly wat’s going on…& then she whispered…“There’s monsters”…OMG…!! I can see from her expression she was afraid…she was not faking it…I was not prepared…I didn’t know wat to do…so I just told her there’s no such thing as monster…try to comfort her…in the end I resort to the only thing I know will work best…I carried her on my lap…rocked her to sleep…well…not really till she sleep…I rocked her till she’s semi-asleep…then put her back on the bed & pat…since then she kept trying to delay sleep time…so I’ve to coax her to bed around 10.30pm & by the time she fall asleep it usually 12am…I know its really late…but tis is the best I can do…we read books…I tell story…sing songs…hope & pray in my heart she’ll not mention abt the “M” thingy…then I did some ‘mini research’ on how to deal with tis sort of issue…family friend (husband & wife) who are from Australia came over to visit their daughter…we all met up & they drop by our place to pray for us…for the past 3 nites Sweetie was so much better…she is still trying to delay the sleeping time but there was no mention of “M” & also I can see from her facial expression she’s more relax…her delaying of sleeping time is so tat she can read books or to sing songs…not so much due to fear…thank God…I pray tat she’ll overcome tis issue…

Do any of u know how to deal with such issues…? Do share ur tots with me…

I know there’s several things you could try. The best thing overall is to try to figure out exactly what she means by “monster”. Is it a shadow caused by a nightlight or a light outside? Is there something she could be hearing in the walls, like rats or water pipes or just the house creaking? If it’s something simple you can get rid of the problem. Otherwise, I’ve heard that kids respond well to having something like a stuffed animal assigned with the job of keeping monsters away, or a spray bottle of water to be used as “monster repellent”, or putting a sign on the door that says “no monsters allowed”. I heard of one dad that went into his child’s room to check for monsters, closed the door, banged around a little, and told his child that he’d beat up the monsters and that they wouldn’t come back. I read another story about a parent convincing her children that the monsters were really there to watch out for them, not hurt them. So there’s a lot you can do.
So far we haven’t really had to deal with monsters, but I know it’s coming.
I am very glad her tummy is better and I can’t believe the little one is getting so old! And yes, I missed reading you. :) I hope things are better in the coming weeks.
